  • The Boys Hair and Makeup 98 Woodlark Street Lismore, NSW, 2480 Australia (map)

This exhibition explores the colours of Rainbow Flag as expressed by its original creator, US artist Gilbert Baker (1951-1971). The Rainbow flag has evolved through many incarnations since the first design was created in 1978. The original flag had eight colours, then six in 1979, then seven in the 1980s, when a black stripe was added to represent the “Victory over AIDS”.

Today's commonly used "progress flag" added the trans colours and people of colour stripes in 2018. Other variations having also been created over recent years. Before he died Baker added a lavender stripe to his original design to represent “diversity" offering us a version that brings together all the preceding designs into unified whole.
